About the site!
On this site
I want this place to be a love letter to anything and everything I enjoy.
I often find myself consumed by seemingly random subjects and, I must admit, I love talking.
However, I’m not completely oblivious to how tiresome it can be to listen to me going off on a tangent. Since around 2015, I’ve been using Microsoft Word, and more recently Google Docs, to both satisfy my need to ramble and to record these interests.
These writings are amateur at best and incomprehensible at worst. They were always meant for my eyes alone and frankly, I am quite ashamed of how bad some of them are.
I discovered Neocities in early 2024 and fell in love. There is so much care in every website, and each one of them is full of personality. I can spend hour after hour just browsing through people’s sites.
And so, I was inspired to create my own.
I plan to keep writing for myself but also polish some of my writings to share here while experimenting with the possibilities that bring running a personal site.
On the internet
I’m so done with short-form content slop. I deleted TikTok back in 2021 but nowadays it seems you can't escape it: YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, etc. They are everywhere. Just some stupid made-up Reddit AMTA story with Subway Surfers or Minecraft gameplay with footage of someone cutting soap and playing with kinetic sand. Even some longer videos are clearly made in a way that makes it easy to cut them into TikTok clips.
I believe this is a direct result of how most platforms these days are intended predominantly for financial gain. There is no thought behind these videos, no personality. In the past, some users at least had the decency to do a voice-over but now even that’s lost, replaced with the same awful robotic AI voice.
It does not help that now the entire web seems to be concentrated on a handful of sites that have become increasingly impersonal and filled to the brim with ads.
I found a shelter on personal sites and the indie web while trying to take a break from the commercialized “mainstream” internet.
That said, I don’t expect to be able to update this site very regularly— especially during midterm and finals season.
